RESIDENTS OF THE MORAVIAN SILESIAN REGION HAVE IMPROVED IN SORTING WASTE ONCE AGAIN!

12. 7. 2022

Every year, the municipalities whose residents are best at sorting waste receive an award. These competitions are part of a regional information campaign focusing on promoting waste collection and sorting in towns and cities in the Czech Republic.

More specifically, an award is presented in relation to the “Ceramic Earphone” competition for sorting retired electrical appliances in the Moravian Silesian Region. The competition is organised by the ASEKOL compliance scheme in cooperation with the Moravian Silesian Region. The recovery ratio of old electrical equipment is evaluated as a per capita figure. Handed in electrical appliances include small electrical appliances, such as computers, televisions, radios, cameras, video cameras or telephones. The town of Krasov won the “population up to 2 thousand” category, the town of Ostravice dominated the “population over 2 thousand category” (just like last year) and the town of Nový Jičín was the winner of the “population over 10 thousand” category.

Winners of the CERAMIC EARPHONE 2021 competition (small electrical appliances, PC and TV):

Categories  Town/city  Recovered electrical appliances
Municipalities with a population of up to 2,000  Krasov  12.25 kg / per capita
Municipalities with a population of over 2,000  Ostravice  6.08 kg / per capita
Municipality with extended powers  Nový Jičín  1.98 kg / per capita

The winning towns of the Moravian Silesian Region were presented their awards during an awards ceremony held at the Nová Horka Château in Studénka. “We are extremely pleased that more and more people in our region consider sorting waste a natural part of their responsibility to their surroundings.  But there is still a long way to go before we reach the ideal state, which is why it is important to continue to remind people of the correct rules and promote educational projects, which includes the popular competition for towns. In recent years, we have also begun to focus our educational activities on children and families, using starter sets for first-year pupils or coloured bags for sorting household waste,” vice president of the Moravian Silesian Region for Regional Development Jan Krkoška said during the ceremony.

We would like to congratulate the winning towns on behalf of the ASEKOL Company and we wish them much success in the future.
