Drop off Your Mobile Phone at the Library is a unique collection event promoting education about the need to sort old electrical devices, focusing specifically on mobile phones. It is organised in cooperation with the ASEKOL collective scheme and the regional president’s offices of individual regions. More information is available at www.odlozmobil.cz.

Readers brought exactly 1612 old mobile phones to their favourite libraries in the Vysočina Region in recent months.

  • The winner of the towns with a population of from 1500 to 6000 category was the library in Telčwhich collected 211 mobile phones.
  • The Municipal Library in Třebíč excelled in the municipalities with a population of over 6000 category, and collected 169 old mobile phones.
  • The library in Svratka placed first in the municipalities with a population up to 1500 category, with readers bringing in 160 old mobile phones.

“The total number of collected devices remains high, despite the declining number of new phones sold as a result of the economic crisis. However, the number of collected phones was not the project’s main goal. We chiefly wanted to draw attention to the correct methods for collection and subsequent recycling of small old electrical devices, which a lot of people continue to throw into the normal communal waste due to lack of information,” said Pavel Hájek, councillor of the Vysočina Region for Forestry and Water Management, Agriculture and the Environment.

1026 old mobile phones were collected in the South Bohemian Region.

  • The highest number of phones in the towns with a population of over 6000 category was collected by the library in České Budějovice – a total of 243 phones.
  • The library in Větřín was successful in the municipalities with a population of between 1500-6000 category, and managed to collect 67 old mobile telephones.
  • The library in Bernartice placed first in the municipalities with a population of up to 1500 category, with readers bringing in 160 old mobile phones.

“The number of collected devices was a pleasant surprise, despite the fact that the number of new phones sold is declining as a result of the economic crisis. However, the number of collected phones was not the project’s main goal. We chiefly wanted to draw attention to the correct methods for collection and subsequent recycling of small old electrical devices, which a lot of people continue to throw into the normal communal waste due to lack of information,” said František Talíř, 1st Vice President of the South Bohemian Region for the Environment.

All mobile phones will be sent to certified processors for professional recycling. Thanks to the recycling of these devices and subsequent reuse of materials, a number of materials can be put back into circulation. And that is how we get new from the old. 😊 Thank you to all the participants and congratulations to the winners! Your ASEKOL.
